Rule Variants
The following is a list of variants of 1kbwc. Please e-mail collin@1000blankwhitecards.com to explain your variants.
The Butler Variant:
Butler's variant originates from frequent plays using the "original" rules. It was played by several students at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN and travelled with Collin to central Illinois.
- The anatomy of a card includes an all-but-required section labeled "Description" that allows the following:
- Descriptions can contain an action that the person who the card was played on MUST do the action on the card. We have generally found that the game never goes "too far" because of the fear of retaliation (e.g. if someone causes another player to do something embarrassing in public, how much more will that person embarrass the player of the card with a new one?)
- Descriptions can be related to the game, albeit they cannot end the game prematurely. For example, the card can have someone draw cards, discard cards, move played cards, etc.
- Descriptions are not required, but make for interesting gameplay. Some of the "old school" players tend to make more points-only cards, while new players seem to favor descriptions. I enjoy a combination of both.
